My name is Zach Winegardner, and I am a digital artist with experience in XR, interactive media, and animation. I am currently a Lecturer in the Department of Design at The Ohio State University where I instruct design foundations courses. I am also a staff member at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) at OSU, working on a VR application for training emergency responders for mass casualty SALT traige. This site is where I document my research, professional work, and personal projects.
My research surrounds ideas of using digital media in tandem with critical making and play to examine things we are curious about to get a new, alternative look at them. I completed my MFA at Ohio State in 2018. My thesis focused on exploring historical paintings with digital tools and creating artifacts to provoke active observation and new dialogue.
I earned my undergraduate degree at Ohio University, where my interest and skill in the fields of fine arts, computer animation, and game design originated. I have always had a passion for making, and providing opportunities for anyone to learn and experience things in engaging ways.
